My name is John Dorn and I have been designing for print, packaging, plastic and other substrates since around 1984. I was one of the last to be taught old school on the drawing board, with t-square, letraset type, wax, hot glue, blue line and exacto knife; torturously setting type by hand and working in the dark. UW Eau Clair installed a computer lab the year after i graduated. That old hands-on-knowledge is priceless now. I managed to convert to the digital desktop in the late 80's. Now I sucessfully combine traditional skills with the latest technology to solve problems and get the job done. Take a look at my gallery fo disc golf artwork spanning the last 15 years. What started out as a way to get free disc golf equipment has transformed into a substantial body of work that might be one of the largest in the sport of disc golf. There are better illustrators out there but I deal in volume because it's my secret weapon You may also notice some packaging and print work along with some web design stuff. Most of the print work is boring and is "working for the man" collateral and I dont consider it "mine" if you know what i mean. These galleries include a print work for Georgia Pacific, a brand lauch for Central Aquatics and lots more. Finally there are some fine art and mural galleries. The mural work occupied about 5 years of my lifefrom 1991 to 1996, and I really miss working in public and making BIG! The sculpture and metals pieces are very recent work from school. I decided to go back to get my teaching certification Art Ed (K-12) at UW-M after my boys came to live with my full time. |
